Every year, on February 23, dogs all around the world pay homage to their favorite treat—The Dog Biscuit. This year, International Dog Biscuit Appreciation Day falls on a Friday which means dogs all across the globe will wag their tails when their owners serve them a tasty treat! It doesn’t matter if it’s made from scratch, or bought at the store, you’re dog’s still going to love you. After all, it’s the thought that counts, the fact that you didn’t forget to reward your dog for all the love and joy he’s brought into your life.
The first dog biscuits were made in the mid-19 century by an American manufacturer by the name of James Spratt. Spratt came up with the idea for dog biscuits while on a trip to Liverpool, England where he watched stray dogs eating biscuits from ships docked in the harbor. Spratt first produced his biscuits in Liverpool out of secret ingredients that included both meat and vegetables.
Today we give our dogs biscuits as a reward while we train them, or even just because we love them. Some dog biscuits will even help keep your dogs’ teeth clean—so—give your best friend a healthy treat and watch him smile!
